Staci Kae Brookover
Sr. Career Consultant
In the beginning . . .
As a professional of 20 years with experience in the print and technology industries, I'm no different from you or anyone else feeling stalled, burnt out, fed up, bored, or simply just lost at times.
While I began my working experience as a barista at 16 in northern California, worry for my financial future and an inherent drive to make decisions with purpose eventually lead me down a path of customer service, production management, and project management.
After 10 years in the print industry, I realized the rise of technology was quickly replacing the brochure with websites, the business card with email, and billboards with the whole of the internet. Although I enjoyed the industry, I had some hard decisions to make.
The first steps . . .
I made the choice to abruptly switch from one industry to another in 2012. With my GED, no college degree, and no certifications I was facing a career mountain when it came to transitioning into the technology arena. I pushed forward anyway, hoping someone, anyone, would see my value and give me the career break I needed. I learned something quickly . . . I'm the only one who can ensure my success in all things, including my career path.
The journey . . .
The experience I gained from that two-year industry transition journey taught me invaluable skills and retrained my way of thinking. I can own the job search. I just have to learn to play the game! Constant refinement and application of my techniques proved successful time and again, to the surprise of everyone.
Once I overcame self-doubt, created a personal brand, and started telling my story effectively, opportunities began to fall from the sky. But even if I landed interviews. without a degree or any certifications, the hurdles were still there. Remembering my approach of "Gotta play to win.", I decided to compartmentalize the process and become an expert in each step. The results? Those hurdles weren't as high, and some I eliminated altogether!
Friends and family began to ask for help . . . and started referring their friends and family to me in numbers. Ultimately, due to the volume of referrals and the repetitive nature of my advice, LinkedIn® 101 was born.
Over the past six years, not only have I continued to apply my best practices to my career journey, but I've also consulted professionals in many industries including technology, culinary arts, marketing, renewable energy, government, and more. My clients work for recognized names like Apple, Indeed, VRBO, USAA, Univision, and the likes. From new college grads to retirees getting a second wind, my consultations provide career foundations that are ageless.
